First memory of spearfishing

Shooting my first fish (Manini) with a 3 prong on Oahu. I remember being in 5ft of water and the Manini just went stiff and didn’t move! I was hooked on the feeling of catching my own dinner.

Favorite fish to hunt

Uku a.k.a grey snapper a.k.a green jobfish a.k.a EYEBROWS!

Favorite fish dish to prepare

Panko crusted coconut mu with a dash of garlic salt and ponzu sauce on the side, light greens and rice with furikake on top.

Favorite hunting style

I love deep reef. Fish are generally a little more curious and calm. You can also get lucky with the occasional pelagic on (niele) patrol!

Favorite dive trip or memory

My favorite memory was when I got persuaded by Barame, Nice and Kai into doing a down patrol dive before having to be at work at 9am. On my second drop of the morning I was greeted by a 23.5lb uku, I lined up the shot and spined it. Watching it nose dive into the reef as I was coming back up to the surface was a feeling I will never forget. We went straight in after that and I was back on shore by 7:45am. I grabbed breakfast and was able to embrace the stoke all before work. Later in the day I got a call from Barame to look out into the bay with my binos. As I see their boat pass by, I can see Kai Brun holding up 2 onos!

Dream dive trip

I would say Ascension Island but it would almost seem anticlimactic to expect big fish everywhere. A spot like Fiji where there’s both waves and fish mixed with a bonus dog tooth tuna would be mean.

Ideal setup

I’m excited to try out my new 110cm KAP Euro soon but a no-brainer, deal sealer gun is my 130cm enclosed track KAP Euro, reverse mech with extension pin to keep my shooting line tight and out of the way, 5/8 black Primeline bands with a 7.5mm welded flopper Addiction shaft, 50m Ulusub reel with black Aussie pro line and a carbon dipped A2 handle. BANGO!

One thing no one knows about me

I have a neon pink Barbie looking sign from my mom with glitter writing that says LOVE IS PEACE in my room hahaha.
